World Hijab Day 2015

World Hijab Day 2015

The current buzzword is World Hijab Day.  What is World Hijab Day?

February 1st, 2013,  marked the first annual World Hijab Day in recognition of millions of Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab and live a life of modesty.

The brainchild of this movement is a New York resident, Nazma Khan, who came up with the idea as a means to foster religious tolerance and understanding by inviting women (non-Hijabi Muslims/non-Muslims) to experience the hijab for one day.

For many people, the hijab is a symbol of oppression and segregation. By opening up new pathways to understanding, Nazma hopes to counteract some of the controversies surrounding why Muslim women choose to wear the hijab. – Read more on The Official World Hijab Day Website

"Participated in World hijab day today. All- in- all, I had a pleasant experience, a few comments about 'terrorists' and looks, but I just smiled and ignored it. I felt protected and pure. My beautiful mum even tried one on with me smile emoticon. It takes lot of courage for women to wear hijab in western countries, I really give you all my respect. A few picture of me my mum and friend's son. God Bless." -Danielle (Brisbane, Australia), Religion: Still i research smile emoticon

"I want to show my support to all the women who are wearing an hijab day after day. I also want to say a big Thank You to my dear Aymen, who is teaching me a lot about Islam and who is holding my hands in the distance to show me the beauty of your religion. I hope that one day we can live in a world where nobody judges each other for their way of dress or their faith."- Elena Al-vear (From Spain with love.Peace be upon you)
