The Masakhane Girls’ Committee was formed to enrich the lives of the teenage girls who attend the Verulam Islamic Institute (VII). Just as the word ‘masakhane’ suggests, enrichment is offered to develop the young women in all aspects and is ongoing. One of the programmes arranged annually by the Masakhane Girls’ Committee is held in Ramadaan which brings together about 600 females of different ages to spend time together sharing their common sisterhood. The programme brings sisters from organizations like WAMY, VII, As Salaam, South Coast Madressa, Islamic Guidance, Escourt Islamic Centre, Ihsaan Girls College, Phoenix Muslim School , Inhlazatshe Independant School Islamic High schools in Durban , as well as members of the community together to celebrate their common sisterhood.

The programme this year will be held in May as the schools will be closed during Ramadaan. This year, the girls will be treated to a unique opportunity of a live ‘Zain Bhika Show” – FREE OF CHARGE –
Alhumdulillah, this is part of Brother Zain’s Social Responsibility Portfolio , marking his 20th anniversary , whereby he will be embarking on a country wide tour to launch his ” Celebrating 20yrs DVD’. Brother Zain has released a song titled ‘Sizomkonzu’Allah” which he performed with girls from the Verulam Islamic Institute.

‘Sisters of Africa-2014’will take place on Friday 2 May 2014, 8:30-13:00- NMJ Islamic Centre-Morningside, Durban.

Your contributions will Insha Allah be of benefit to these teenagers for a long time to come. There is some way each of you can be part of this initiative.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Every Muslim has to give in charity.” The people then asked: “(But what) if someone has nothing to give, what should he do?” The Prophet replied: “He should work with his hands and benefit himself and also give in charity (from what he earns).” The people further asked: “If he cannot find even that?” He replied: “He should help the needy who appeal for help.” Then the people asked: “If he cannot do (even) that?” The Prophet said finally: “Then he should perform good deeds and keep away from evil deeds, and that will be regarded as charitable deeds.”- Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 2, Hadith 524
