It was a time of conquest, civil strife and tribulation, classical administration and wealth.
An empire so large , that it would take a traveller 200 days to move from east to west. From the corridors of Asia Minor to the shores of Spain the language and the laws of the Quran was studied in equal devotion whilst creating strong foothold for trade between 3 continents.
Rise and Fall of the Umayyads
If history was not important Allah would not have us enthralled by the Quran captivated by the stories of old. History is important because it nourishes the mind just as food nourishes the body, gaining knowledge about our past better equips us to deal with what the future holds. History is like a blueprint of a building. If we have knowledge of how it was built we learn what has worked and hasn’t worked and therefore are able to find better ways of building and offer solutions to the problems that have occurred in the previous blueprint. In much the same way, learning about the Umayyad era especially helps us pinpoint problems we are experiencing in this century among Muslims and work towards solutions.
